SEO, the Google Sandbox and Myths

October 24th, 2009 by myarticle

Many places online have spoken about the so-called Google sandbox theory. Most people seem to be of the opinion that when a website is new, then it will automatically “find its way” into the sandbox. During the sandbox stay, a site will not appear in any of the top search pages in Google. Building more links to your sites is, in the opinion of some, a sure fire way of escaping the clutches of the sandbox; others disagree. The people who do disagree with this theory reckon that only with the passage of time will you escape the evil monsters clutches.

Understanding internet marketing and SEO are the key to understand the sandbox theory. Although the existence of the sandbox is debatable, many people have an opinion one way or the other based on past experiences.

Some people insist that if they build links in the right way, they can achieve page one rankings for quite competitive keywords within a month. They also maintain that their new sites can also get indexed by Google within the space of a few hours. Does this then pour cold water over the whole sandbox theory?

Nevertheless, many people believe in the sandbox and have their own reasons for doing so. First, they may not actually know how to obtain backlinks in the proper manner. This means that when their site doesn’t show up in Google they automatically think they have been sandboxed. Or they may build links too quick in the first couple of days and get a Google slap. But this slap shouldn’t be mistaken for the sandbox.

We could therefore say that although the sandbox probably doesn’t exist as such, you could still be liable to a slap. Then again, this very fact may be the sandbox people keep going on about?
